Faithfully Well: Breathing, Believing, and Becoming Who God Made You to Be

May 27, 20254 min read

Hey, it’s Ronai!

Have you ever felt a little off spiritually—like you're going through the motions, but not really feeling connected to God? I’ve been there. But the beautiful thing is, He never leaves us. Sometimes, we just need a reset—a way to reconnect, body, mind, and spirit.

That’s why I want to share a few of my favorite tools for nurturing spiritual health. These are the very things that help me stay grounded in faith, stay focused on God’s voice, and walk out my divine purpose.

Let’s Start with the Breath

Breath is sacred. It’s the very first gift God gave Adam—“and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7 KJV). When we slow down and breathe intentionally, it shifts everything. Try this:

Breath Prayer Practice:

  • Inhale deeply for 4 counts and say in your mind: “I receive Your peace.”

  • Hold for 4 counts: “You are here.”

  • Exhale for 4 counts: “I release all fear.”

  • Repeat 3–5 times.

Add in a grounding oil like Frankincense, and you’ve got a soul-level reset. Just a drop in your palms, breathe it in deeply, and invite the Holy Spirit to meet you there.

Essential Oils Straight from Scripture

Did you know many essential oils we use today were actually used in the Bible? These weren’t just fragrances—they were for anointing, prayer, purification, and healing.

Here are a few of my favorites and how I use them for spiritual health:

🌿

Frankincense – “The Kingly Oil”

Mentioned over 50 times in Scripture, frankincense was brought to Jesus at His birth (Matthew 2:11). It’s known to support focus, calm the nervous system, and uplift your spirit.

How I use it: On the crown of my head when I pray, or in my diffuser during journaling time.

🌸

Myrrh – “The Oil of Covenant”

Used in Esther’s purification (Esther 2:12) and in Jesus’ burial (John 19:39), myrrh is deeply grounding and emotionally supportive.

Try this: Mix a drop with fractionated coconut oil and massage over your heart while declaring, “I am rooted in God’s truth.”

🌲

Cedarwood – “The Oil of Refuge”

Cedarwood was used to build the temple (1 Kings 6:9-10) and represents strength, protection, and shelter. It promotes feelings of safety and connection.

Use it for: Nighttime prayer or when you feel spiritually vulnerable. Apply to feet or diffuse with Frankincense.

🌼

Spikenard – “The Oil of Worship”

Spikenard was the costly oil poured over Jesus’ feet by Mary (John 12:3). It symbolizes surrender, devotion, and honor.

Try this: Place a drop over your heart or on the back of your neck during worship or quiet time.

🌿

Cypress – “The Oil of Strength”

Used in temple construction and symbolizing uprightness (Isaiah 44:14), Cypress brings emotional fortitude and spiritual grounding.

Use it when: You feel spiritually weary. Breathe it in and ask God to renew your strength.

Scripture + Strengths = Divine Alignment

When I started learning about CliftonStrengths, I discovered that my talents weren’t random. They were God-given tools—crafted for my calling. I share this in my book, Faithfully Unleash Your Strengths, because when you combine strengths coaching with Scripture and the Holy Spirit? Watch out world—here you come!

✨

For example, if you have Empathy, you may feel deeply for others. Pair that with Romans 12:15 —“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” You’re not too sensitive—you’re gifted to carry others through the hard stuff.

✨

Got Belief? Ground yourself in Isaiah 60:22—“I the Lord will hasten it in his time.” You’ve got fire in your soul, and it’s rooted in divine purpose.

✨

If you’re a WOO (Winning Others Over), your gift is connection. Use 1 Peter 4:9-10 to remind yourself, “Use hospitality one to another... as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

I could go on and on, but the point is this: You were made on purpose, for a purpose, by a God who does not make mistakes.

The App That Changed My Quiet Time

If you haven’t downloaded the Brilliant Plus App, it’s like having a personal spiritual mentor in your pocket. I love listening to the daily messages—sometimes I’ll play one while sipping tea and diffusing frankincense and Cedarwood. These messages remind me of who I am, who God is, and how He sees me. (And let’s be honest, sometimes I need that reminder daily.)

Here’s the best part—when I combine listening to the app with breathing, oils, and a little journaling time, it becomes a whole spiritual wellness routine. It’s not complicated. It’s just intentional.

A Simple Routine to Try:

  1. Roll on Frankincense and place a drop in your hands to inhale deeply.

  2. Do the 4-4-4 breath with a scripture in mind (try Psalm 46:10).

  3. Open the Brilliant Plus App and listen to a daily message.

  4. Journal what you hear God saying.

  5. Pray using your top strength. (Need help with your Strengths? Book a coaching session with me.)

Final Thought

Spiritual health doesn’t have to be complicated or fancy. It just needs to be intentional. And when you bring together Scripture, scent, breath, and your strengths—it becomes personal. It becomes yours.

So take a moment today. Breathe in God’s presence. Anoint your space. Listen for His whisper.

You’re not alone. You’re equipped. And you are called.
